As a voice teacher I have strong personal values about what is important for my students. First and foremost, I believe that it is very important to instill high expectations in every student. I encourage individuality a strong use of imagination. I believe that every student has a unique set of goals, abilities, and interests. I think it is extremely important to keep lessons somewhat informal in order to create a safe environment. Some of my objectives as a teacher apply to all students, and some differ for each level and vary depending on what the students end goal is. I want all students to develop musically, artistically, personally, and technically. I believe that in order to make lessons the most efficient possible it is important to make lessons fun and engaging, both mentally and physically. For new students one of my biggest objectives is to build trust. I believe it is much easier to progress more quickly when there is trust. As a teacher I want to make sure that all of my students learn to connect their love of music with their sense of self and take them on a journey of musical and personal development as they work towards a performance. The methods that I use in order to achieve my objectives with the students are based on a balance between the technical and emotional aspects of the music. First, it is important to create a clear studio atmosphere. This should include positively, honesty, support, and kindness. In order to be the most efficient I find it helpful to break down the lessons into three parts: music theory, technical exercises, and repertoire.
